KEVIN MAYHEW MAJOR PROJECT work destined for the local market, Zambia and Botswana has featured strongly over the past year for Westmead-based MGI Transport & Logistics. Owner of the four-year-old company, Murray Griffin, said his company was generally contracted to supervise the offloading from ships and transport to local destination and cross border. It is currently undertaking a major project of specialised piping from China to Zambia through Durban. However, MGI’s core business is general cargo transportation and warehousing to and from Durban to all South Africa’s major centres using its owner driver vehicles and sub-contracted transport companies. “The market is good at the moment and we are being called on to do project work with the likes of China. We have a further two major project movements to Botswana early next year,” he told FTW. MGI is based at the Mariannhill Engen Truck Stop. This provides the company with a first class overnight or weekend stop-over facility for all its drivers and contractors. It also assists by providing payment terms for diesel that makes it easier for the owners to pay for their fuel when transporting cargo for his company, he added.
