ON FEBRUARY 1 Rob Childs takes over as Portnet c.e.o. and takes his seat on Transnet's main board.

He is currently operations director of the southern region of SA Breweries Beer Division.

Portnet is a key organisation in the parastatal's transformation strategy, says Transnet m.d. Saki Macozoma, and Childs is ideally equipped to address a number of urgent and complex issues.

Foremost among these is the splitting of the administration and operations sections of Portnet, a plan which Macozoma announced recently. At the time he said a suitable person would be appointed to the c.e.o. post and would have this as one of his major portfolios.
