Africa may not be for the faint-hearted but those willing to take on the challenge will find opportunities are plentiful, says Jeremiah Naidoo of abnormal load specialists Transnetwork Logistics. “There has been a huge demand in exports – especially in the mining sector – in several countries including Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC),” he told FTW. According to Naidoo there has been a definite improvement in infrastructure in several countries. “Zambia has invested extensively in its infrastructure, and when one compares it to Zimbabwe or the DRC for example, one can see the extent of the improvement.” There are, however, still areas in the country that are challenging, says Naidoo. “Because of the road works from Kafue to Lusaka and from Kariri to Ndola it is difficult to transport here at present, but hopefully we will see major improvements when the work is completed.” Naidoo is optimistic about Africa and its opportunities. “There will be a need for development in Africa for many more years to come and that means opportunities from just about any industry. The options are vast and companies can get involved in anything from mining to wholesale. Now is the time to invest in Africa and grow one’s footprint.” With this in mind Transnetwork Logistics is looking at extending its reach. With offices in Zimbabwe, Zambia and the DRC, plans are under way to develop and grow these offices extensively in the future.
