Mozambique is set to embark on a drive that will re-energise its logistics services with neighbouring Malawi, and expectations are that plans will soon be announced to invigorate trade between the two countries.
According to reports, the logistical linkages on which Mozambique will focus are the corridors from the ports of Nacala and Beira.
A post published by Club of Mozambique (CoM) said: “Malawi uses these corridors to import basic food supplies, fertilisers, fuel and building materials among other commodities, but also to send its exports, such as tobacco, onto the international market.”
Last week Malawian Minister of Transport and Public Works, Mohamed Mia, paid a visit to the two ports to gauge operational processes.
The visit followed a recent meeting between Filipe Nyusi and Lazarus Chakwera, the respective heads of state of Malawi and Mozambique.
Mia’s mission to Nacala and Beira also served to identify processing holdups on the corridors, long-since recognised as speed impediments for exports and imports in and out of Malawi through the two ports.
