A RELEASE to FTW indicates that the National Ports Authority (NPA) now requires importers to pay dock dues 24 hours before the arrival of the carrying vessel in port.
It also pointed out that the penalties (at a yet to be determined level) will be imposed on cargo owners who fail to meet this deadline.
Penalties will also be raised against export cargoes where dues have not been paid within 72 hours of the vessel having completed working.
The source of the release also suggested that forwarders are likely to be quite tight on these deadlines.
“Where documents and clearing instructions are received too late to meet with these requirements,” he told FTW, “penalties raised by the NPA will be passed on to the client concerned.”
