LEONARD NEILL NEW INTERNATIONAL regulations governing the treatment requirements of wooden packaging in the transportation of goods have provided a new set of problems to packaging companies, exporters and importers, especially when these are being conveyed into countries across the African continent. “Many African countries know little or nothing of the existence of these laws, and it requires experienced personnel to ensure that the goods get to their destinations without hurdles along the route,” says Reinhardt van der Westhuizen, managing member of Gauteng-based Tusker Packaging Solutions. “What we have done is to organise into tightly knit teams, each matched to the needs of a particular project. Linked to our extensive network, they have been successful in completing a large number of projects in a wide variety of locations. In this way we ensure every customer has committed attention to his goods, with the assurance that we are providing a high quality service.” Increasing numbers of contracts have resulted in the company moving to new warehousing premises, with more staff having been employed. At the same time Tusker has been accredited by the Department of Agriculture to supply compliant heat treated products that meet all international regulations.
