A new 600-sqm workshop

made out of containers

is helping Container World

Namibia to keep down the

costs of conversion, repairs and

maintenance of containers,

according to Mathieu van Hout,

general manager of the company.

“Despite the current worldwide

economic downturn, the

demand for container lease

and sales keeps on increasing.

Several new mines have opened

in Namibia, and we have been

able to secure some long-term

container lease contracts with

contractors constructing these

mines.

“Our office container lease

option is very popular,” he says.

Container World invested

in the new workshop in order

to keep price increases down

in the face of the weak US$ to

ZAR exchange, which has made

containers more expensive.

“Despite the large f luctuations

we have been able to keep our

lease prices steady for the past

three years.”

Leasing has become the

preferred option for a number

of companies in the face of the

economic downturn and ongoing

drought, which has put a

number of construction projects

on hold.

“On our most popular products

we are proud to have kept price

increases at a bare minimum by

constructing similar products

(such as our Multihouse office

units) ourselves.

“This has the additional

advantage of us being able to

tailor the unit to meet the client’s

requirements,” he says.

A new Scania crane truck with

a crane capacity of four tons has

been purchased, improving on

our delivery schedules.

“We pride ourselves on being

able to deliver country-wide

within three days of purchase or

the signing of a lease,” he says.

Container World is also

helping companies to optimise

their use of space.

“Our newest product is

a tented

structure

which can

be placed

on top of

containers,

basically

creating

a turnkey

solution

for various

companies

experiencing

space restrictions in their

current premises.”

Container World also stores

containers on behalf of clients,

and is in the process of planning

a second 100-unit container

storage yard “in a very central

location in Windhoek,” says

Van Hout.
