ROAD AND rail routes between Zimbabwe and Mozambique are operating normally again, according to shippers in Harare. The Beira road has reopened after being closed for four days because of heavy rain, while the railway line has been unaffected although trains had to slow to almost a crawl for a period.
The Chiqualaquala line to Maputo has been unaffected.
Everything is virtually back to normal on the Beira link, says Dave Sly of Unifeeder, and the port is able to handle everything that passes through.
The biggest problem at Beira is a build-up of sand in the Makuti entrance channel, which has forced night navigation to be stopped. A dredger is soon to be sent up from Durban and the channel should be clear in about six weeks time.
