Operating procedures minimise border delays

Border delays have been identified as an ongoing challenge for logistics providers in the perishables sector.

“This challenge is exacerbated with the cold supply chain,” said Dhiren Krishna, MD of GSF Trucking.

And this was not necessarily due to a carrier’s ability to maintain the temperature integrity and particularly affected non-frozen fresh produce with a relatively short shelf-life, he added.

“We have developed operating procedures to minimise border delays. These include ensuring that all statutory documentation is completed and all border fees, customs and excise duties, preshipment inspections and so forth are completed and signed off,” said Krishna. “We also work closely with our team on both sides of border posts to ensure a smooth and expedited border crossing that minimises or eliminates cargo loss risks.”
