Captain Chen dies JOY ORLEK CHAIRMAN OF Green Africa Group, Captain JJ Chen, died in Taipei last week after a long illness. Well known in South African shipping circles, he was the driving force behind the launch of several Taiwanese shipping lines in South Africa - Nantai Line in the early 1980s, followed by Kien Hung Line and in 1993 Evergreen Marine Corporation (Taiwan), for which Green Africa Shipping are the agents in South Africa. He has played a key role over the past decade in the growth of the company, which currently represents the Evergreen Group as well as Lloyd Triestino di Navigazione in South Africa. Capt Chen is survived by his wife, three children and six grandchildren. Mrs JJ Chen will take over as chairman once all legalities have been finalised.
