All passengers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport have been advised to arrive at the airport four hours prior to departure while the runway undergoes developments which will see it close between midnight and 06h00 for one year, from April 2.
“Passengers should also be advised to use taxis or be dropped off, to avoid leaving their cars at the airport as this will lead to further congestion,” the Kenyan Airport Authority said in a statement.
The closure is to pave the way for a major rehabilitation project that will include resurfacing the full runway, upgrading the Instrument Landing System and upgrading the runway capacity by construction of rapid exit taxiways and extending the parallel taxiway. It forms part of KAA’s strategy to ensure that the airport operates optimally for the next 15 years.
