Ngqura set to add capacity

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) wants to see all four berths operational at the Port of Ngqura in the next 18 months. This was the word from Nico Walters, TNPA general manager strategy, who said the port had seen unprecedented growth and had become a stalwart in the South African port system while building a global reputation as a transhipment hub. “Growing capacity at the Port of Ngqura remains a priority,” he said. “We have a four-berth container terminal but with only two berths operational. It is essential that we get the outstanding two operational sooner rather than later.” He said the cranes for the two new berths were on order and pending delivery the berths would become operational. “This will give us two million-TEU capacity at the port,” he said. The Ngqura container terminal, is officially the world’s fastest growing terminal.
