New US technology helps reduce inventory

A UNIQUE RADIO Frequency Identification (RFID) system has been introduced into South Africa by Savi Technology, a California-based company. It has signed strategic partnerships with three locally based service providers, which have already led to a number of projects and prospects throughout the region.
One of these, software supplier Qmuzik, has jointly negotiated with Savi the final terms of a contract with a leading supplier of automobile parts, in which visibility and management of parts shipped from Europe to South African manufacturing facilities has been improved to the customer’s benefit.
The combination of the two companies provides a solution which deploys Savi’s RFID systems and related software with Qmuzik’s software application already being used by their
mutual customer.
It also enables the manufacturer to reduce over-supplies, inventories, stock holding times and costly expedited shipments.
Savi has appointed Dexter Motta-Marques as regional manager, Southern Africa. A co-founder of Choice Technologies, a black empowered computer networking and information technology company, he has introduced Choice Technologies as one of the three strategic partners.
The third is Business Logistics Management, a Centurion-based company which specialises in total supply chain networking.
Savi Technology’s solution combines automated data collection technologies, such as bar codes, smart cards, RFID devices and GPS satellite tracking systems.
