Ongoing
investment in
Beira by the J&J
Africa Group
is supporting the growth
of the Beira
Corridor
for crossborder
bulk
shipments.
The group’s
Beira Logistics
Terminals
(BLT) is
replacing
its current
“fixed mobile”
bagging
machine for 50
kg bags with a
mobile Nectar unit.
“This will increase BLT’s
bagging capacity to 2 400
tons a day,” says Christian
Roeder, chief executive
officer of J&J Mozambique.
The existing bagger will
be converted to handle one
metric ton bags, with a daily
capacity of 500 tons per
day.
BLT is
also offering
project logistics
support, with the
appointment of
Kanishk Jaiswal
as a senior
manager to head
up BLT Projects.
Complementing
BLT is
Independent
Beira Logistics
Terminals and
Services (IBLTS), a customs
secure container depot
which now has a 3 500-sqm
all-weather cross-loading
facility and five supporting
warehouses totalling
around 11 000 sqm, he says.
The warehouses went
through the recent rainy
season without f looding,
according to Roeder.
A sixth warehouse of
2 200 sqm is due to open
shortly.
“All warehouses have a
concrete slab, enabling us
to handle a full variety of
products,” he says.
Specialized Transport
(ST) is continuing to
increase its tanker f leet,
with the f leet increasing by
50%.
Further expansion is
planned for 2017, he says.
“We are making these
investments because
we believe in the Beira
Corridor and
its potential
to continue
growing,” adds
Roeder.
