There’s a new route for trade between SA and southern France, as the German carrier, Deutsche Afrika Linien (DAL), introduces a weekly southbound sailing from Marseilles to SA – via a transhipment arrangement. Cargo to and from Marseilles will go via Valencia and Las Palmas onto the company’s core service from Europe to SA on the SA Europe Container Service (Saecs), operated jointly between Maersk, Safmarine, MOL and DAL. Total transit time is 25 days to Cape Town, 28 days to Port Elizabeth and 32 days to Durban. The first sailing from Marseilles this week (July 7) was the Carmel Ecofresh, with cargo to be transhipped onto the MOL Cullinan, arriving Cape Town on August 1 and Durban on August 8.
