Vodacom group executive, Vuyani Jarana, has been appointed as the new CEO of South African Airways (SAA).
This was confirmed in a statement by the National Treasury and welcomed by opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), yesterday (Thursday).
“Given that Mr Jarana has turned around a loss-making subsidiary of the Vodacom Group, Vodacom Business Africa, into [a] profitable and growing business, we believe he will be key in turning around SAA,” said finance minister, Malusi Gigaba.
SAA has not had a permanent CEO at the helm since September 2015 despite the airline facing several challenges over the years, including allegations of corruption and significantly large amounts of debt and financial losses.
