New multi-purpose vessel joins Saf fleet

A NEW multi-purpose vessel (MPV) – the first in a series of four newbuilds on long-term charter to Safmarine’s MPV division – has been named the Safmarine Angela. The ship is to join two other vessels on the line’s Opex service connecting Europe and West Africa. This is one of the line’s five different MPV operations serving more than 12 West African countries, and deploying 18 vessels ranging from 12 500 to 18 000-dwt. Three of the services sail out of Europe, one from the US while the Safwaf operation links SA and West Africa. Said Safmarine CEO, Ivan Heesom- Green: “These new, versatile vessels, built to our specifications in China, will be deployed on these West African trades where their ability to carry breakbulk commodities, heavy lift and oversized cargoes and containers, is much sought after by our growing customer base.”
