New investments in Maputo port to reduce loading time

The Maputo Port Development Corporation (MPDC) has introduced measures to reduce the time it takes to load a 40 000-ton ship at the port of Maputo to two and half days – it currently takes three and a half days.

Cited by Mozambique news agency, AIM, operations manager Alexandre Houane said the MPDC had invested in two mobile cranes to improve efficiency and productivity. The LHM550 Liebherr series cranes have a lifting capacity of 144 tons.

The MPDC has also increased its ferro-chrome storage capacity by 1 million tons per year and has invested in a range of forklifts, tractors and trailers to ensure smooth and efficient cargo handling, according to Houane.
