A new intermodal company has just opened its doors in Durban – with the prime business philosophy of persuading road users back to rail. This main aim and focus of Natcor Rail, according to founder member Sidney Ueckermann, will be achieved by working handin- hand with Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) and structuring rates packages for a selected customer base. “In line with TFR’s vision and focus of growing the Natal corridors and increasing the number of daily trains and slots on this route,” he told FTW, “Natcor will be marketing the services that are available.” While the Natal corridor will be the primary focus, Ueckermann stressed that attention to other routes “will in no way be neglected – and hopefully, the road-to-rail concept will be applied to them as well”. The Natcor head office is based in Durban, while the Johannesburg office will be officially opened in February, headed up by Francois Storm. “The office is centrally based and is in close proximity to the City Deep inland terminal and container depots,” said Ueckermann.
