New India service to be launched

DURBAN-BASED ships agents, United Ships Agency, have just signed up a new principal, according to information released by managing director Mark Shih.
We have secured an agency agreement with the Singapore-based shipping line, Gulf Link Maritime, he told FTW. We finalised the agency details on January 10, and are now in the process of introducing the new service to the marketplace.
The intended container liner service will link SA and India with a direct call at Mumbai, while transhipping cargoes bound for other Indian main ports through Colombo.
To test the potential of the trade, Gulf Link is chartering slots on the Express Line service for its first six months of operation.
Depending on this performance, said Shih, the line intends to deploy its own vessel on the route later this year.
