The South African
Customs Union (Sacu)
member states should take
advantage of the support of
the new Brics Development
Bank, which aims to fund
developmental projects
in Africa, said president
Jacob Zuma
Speaking during
the unveiling of Sacu
headquarters in Windhoek,
Namibia last week,
Zuma – the current Sacu
chairperson – noted that
the bank could help fund
trade and infrastructure
development projects in all
Sacu member states.
“Sacu continues to play
an important role in all
our economies and we,
as leaders, agree that it
should be transformed
into a vehicle for regional
integration. We need to
accelerate our development
programmes and the Brics
bank could play a positive
role,” said Zuma.
