New equipment caters for out-of-gauge cargo

GAINST A background of booming transit cargo through the port of Durban, Zambian haulier Celtic Freight Durban has expanded its fleet to cope with the growth. The company recently took delivery of a 30 ton 20' and 40' side shifting Hammar crane trailer from Sweden, capable of lifting full containers on site for specialist unpacking, according to Durban general manager and abnormals division manager, Cobus Marais. “The cranes are also used extensively for unpacking open top and flat rack containers,” Marais told FTW. “Outof- gauge cargo for Zambia seems to come exclusively via Durban, and the side shifter means that most rigging operations can be performed in our bonded area,” he said. “The company’s venture into abnormal trailers has proved successful, with the trailers booked up since the beginning of the year for various Zambian projects.”
