A new bill on any future e-tolls has been referred to the parliamentary transport committee. Democratic Alliance (DA) MP Manny de Freitas has proposed the Private Members Bill which, amongst others, would require a majority vote in the relevant provincial legislature to authorise the implementation of a new toll road.
The bill further proposes that for every toll road an alternative road should be established, and that the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) should undertake socio-economic, environmental and traffic impact assessments before launching a new e-toll network.
