In pursuit of more streamlined and cost-effective project management, Lovemore Bros has established an Engineering, Drafting and Safety (EDS) division. “There is a lot of behind-thescenes work that takes place with most projects that we undertake, including planning, machinery logistics, rigging studies, computer-aided design work, as well as risk assessment and safety. This attention to detail also allows us to find the most cost-effective ways of managing projects and it made sense to launch the division,” said director Bruce Lovemore. He adds that EDS, headed by Vaughan Billson and assisted by Louis Ploos van Amstel, will be operated as an independent business unit and will be made available to the general industry. “A lot of companies have approached us, for example, asking us to do feasibility studies on moving a tank. We will then offer them insight that covers all aspects of the project, including the costs involved,” explained Lovemore. He told FTW that in some cases the company had been able to save the client hundreds of thousands of rands by eliminating the need to hire a crane from Gauteng by using a local alternative achieved through “meticulous planning and ingenuity”. Billson comments: “We see our role as creating the most cost-effective solution for specific projects using technology tools and our own expertise. We then simulate these projects, ensuring that all issues have been addressed, and present those findings to the client.” Billson has a national diploma in mechanical engineering and has completed a course in project management. Van Amstel is an AutoCAD specialist and has a diploma in architect drafting. CAPTION Vaughan Billson (seated) and Louis Ploos van Amstel … setting the project wheels in motion.
