Dachser South Africa has completed its expansion plans and opened its new 3 800-sqm metre warehouse logistics facility to accommodate pick and pack, scanning, storage and handling, amongst others. “We have noticed that clients are increasingly outsourcing their warehousing services in this tough economic climate as it increases efficiency and quality and reduces their expenses in a lot of areas. We have expanded our facilities and services to meet this new demand,” said managing director of Dachser South Africa, Detlev Duve. He told FTW that the company had established a dedicated warehousing division for the South African market. This included implementing warehousing systems that were fully integrated into Dachser South Africa’s other operations. “We have appointed new staff and they have been trained in all aspects of warehousing,” said Duve, adding that the new division had already delivered results for Dachser South Africa. He said that cutting costs and getting the goods in and out to the clients in the quickest, most efficient way remained one of the biggest challenges around warehousing services. “The key is to manage the customer’s inventory effectively by ensuring accurate forecasting of stock movement,” said Duve, pointing out that this helped avoid a situation where a customer ran out of stock and could potentially lose market share as a result.
