New coaster carries record load

TERRY HUTSON IT WAS a milestone voyage for Ocean Africa Container Lines’ Doria, its latest vessel on the southern African coast, when she left recently with a record 762 laden TEUs on her second voyage between Durban and Luanda. According to Ocean Africa’s line executive Mahmood Simjee, this is the single largest load ever for one of the company’s coastal vessels. The 10 811-gt vessel Doria was fixed by Ocean Africa in June this year for a period of four years and is the largest container vessel yet deployed by the South African domiciled shipping line. Built in 1987 she has a maximum container intake of 1022 TEU.
