A new free driving application has been launched for truck drivers along the North-South corridor in southern Africa that helps them find secure and comfortable parking areas along their route.
The new app, TRANSPark, was developed and launched by the International Road Transport Union (IRU) in partnership with the Federation of East and Southern African Road Transport Associations (Fesarta) and Transport Logistics Consultants (TLC).
Using the new app, truck drivers will now be able to plan their routes and rest stops in floodlit, guarded areas from Durban, South Africa to Tanzania, including Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
According to an IRU press statement, an upcoming release will soon enable drivers to identify the locations of border posts, weighbridges and toll booths. “It is also planned to include a GPS tracking capability to enable fleet operators and corridor management organisations to locate trucks, monitor transport times and analyse delays at key check-points,” said an IRU spokesperson.
TRANSPark is available in Botswana, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe and can be downloaded on the iTunes App Store and Google Play.
