ALAN PEAT
THE LOCAL marine underwriting industry is sill sitting tight as it tries to calculate just how much the MSC Napoli wreck is going to cost – and, if a client’s cargo is on-board, where it is in the broken vessel, and when it will be off-loaded for assessment. As was expected, the ship’s manifest has not been made public, but – according to an FTW source in the Association of Marine Underwriters of SA (Amusa) – the stow plan has now been released in London. This, said our “Deep Throat”, gives insurers and cargo owners a lot of valuable information – provided they know the number of the container in which their consignment is being transported. But, for those without a number or with cargo possibly in a consolidated, less-than-container-load (LCL) box, it’s going to be a long wait until they know the fate of their goods, he added. “Months” is the word being used.
