After 10 years at the helm of the Namibian Ports Authority (Namport), chief executive officer Bisey /Uirab will be stepping down, according to an announcement by the Namport board. Under /Uirab’s watch the port of Walvis Bay has been modernised, with a new container terminal due to open later this year. Namport revenue has grown from R434 million in 2008 to R1 billion in 2018.
Total cargo tonnage handled through the ports increased from 4.6 million (2008) to 5.3 million in 2018. There has been a spinoff for local business, with Namport acquiring an average of 80% of its total goods and services from Namibianregistered and owned companies. The Board says it has commenced with the recruitment process for a new CEO and the call for applications will be placed in the media soon.
