For the airfreight division of CFR Freight, Africa remains one of its key destinations, says newly appointed general manager – airfreight, Stephen Bishop. Named-day consolidations have become the benchmark of CFR’s global airfreight offering. And this is no different on the Africa route where the company is looking to extend the concept as a country-wide solution from all centres into South Africa and from South Africa into all centres in Africa, said Bishop. In terms of capacity, this is not a problem at the moment, with several carriers now operating freighters into the region. “We’ve seen increased capacity into the major centres like Nigeria, Kenya and Zambia,” he told FTW. “And recognising the importance of Africa for our own development as an export and import product, we have secured our participation at the Air Cargo Africa Expo to be held in Johannesburg in February next year. We will have a strong presence at the event, with several of our partners in the Air Cargo Group due to join us.” One of the challenges in Africa is access to a strong partnership network – particularly for smaller forwarders. Through CFR’s membership of the Air Cargo Group, its customers are able to leverage off the expertise that this provides, he added. CAPTION Stephen Bishop … ‘increased capacity into the major centres.’
