Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) has confirmed that part of its network on the North-East Corridor (NEC) to the Port of Richards Bay has been reinstated, while due to boulders displaced by heavy rain east of Waterval Boven, the Emgwenya line remains closed.
As a result of continuing weather-related issues on the line also linking up with Mbombela and Komatipoort, bulk shipments of phosphate and magnetite to the port are affected.
Elsewhere though, TFR has managed to restore NEC services that were disrupted last week following heavy downpours in the area.
Restoration of linkages includes branch lines serving Witbank, Belfast, Lydenburg and Steelpoort.
Work begun on Monday focused on clearing staged trains.
TFR added that it was prioritising the reinstitution of freight rail services into Maputo and eSwatini after tracks were washed away by extreme rain.
