Multi-brand facility provides flexible storage

Innovation will be the name of the game
in the automotive industry as it faces
tough economic challenges.
David Macrae, business development
manager for CAT-WWL, says now
more than ever companies have to add
value for clients by refining, expanding
and integrating product and service
offerings on a continuous basis.
“The local automotive industry is very
complex but also dynamic,” he says.
Servicing this industry in light of
global economic pressure will mean
finding innovative solutions for clients
who are looking for ways to save on
costs without sacrificing quality, and
delivering to the market as fast as
possible.
According to Macrae this has become
a key focus for the company.
“One way in which we have
successfully achieved this is through the
development of a multi-brand vehicle
storage facility that we set up in 2014
and now manage at the old Durban
airport site,” he said. “Through optimal
use of the space available we have been
able to provide a flexible storage solution
that comprises both bond and duty
paid storage space for more than 5000
vehicles, with bolted on support services
such as inspections, technical fitments,
repairs and customs clearing and bond
management all in the same location.
Being less than 20km away from the
port, its ideal location strategically
serves both export and import vehicles.”
He said the company had also boosted
its technical capabilities and in the
last 12 months had been awarded two
major on-site technically based service
contracts with two different original
equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
“This will see us providing a wide
array of different technical functions –
from PDIs and repair work to export
packages, aircon and radios.”
