Indian conglomerate the Godrej Group has opened a 22 000-sqm synthetic hair production facility for its Beleza subsidiary in Matola’s Beluluane Industrial Park in order to increase exports to South Africa and other SADC countries.
Operating in Africa since 2006, the Godrej group owns a number of brands, including Mozambique market leader Darling, Frika, Kinky, Inecto, Renew and Mega Growth. The new plant is double the size of the previous Beleza plant in Matola and will employ 5 000 people within the next five years, according to Darling chief executive officer Jai Gandhi.
“It is remarkable that the majority of Darling’s production is already being exported. They are truly setting an example for other manufacturers to prove that Mozambique has the potential to compete as one of the leading manufacturing countries in Africa,” says Adrian Frey, the executive chairman of the Beluluane Industrial Park.
Synthetic hair is big business for the Godrej Group.
