Moz gas projects set to grow

Gas developments in Mozambique are generating significant interest with projects expected to increase in the coming years.

Mozambique has been at the centre of southern Africa’s gas story thanks to huge finds, according to Duncan Bonnett, analyst and director at Africa House.

“Although it has been slow going there is real commitment from companies and they are anticipating a lot of development.”

In March this year the Mozambican government approved Anadarko’s LNG development plan for the country. This outlines the integrated onshore project from the reservoir to the LNG market and is a culmination of the substantial progress made to date on the technical and commercial aspects of the Anadarko-operated Mozambique LNG development.

While the project still has a long way to go, the approval of the plan was seen as a real advancement toward a Final Investment Decision (FID). “Even though they have not reached FID they have already started to build and expand the campsite for workers,” said Bonnett indicating that this move spoke to the oil and gas giant’s ongoing investment and commitment to the project.
