PERCIVAL MOSWEU has been appointed general manager of Spoornet’s technical department replacing Leo Petkoon who has retired after almost 40 years service. Mosweu will be responsible for managing the life cycle of Spoornet’s core railway assets, including the acquisition, commissioning, maintenance and decommissioning of resources. A seasoned electrical engineer with 17 years maintenance engineering experience at both operational and strategic levels, Mosweu has spent seven years in the railway industry. He also holds several business management qualifications. He will focus his energies on the maintenance of Spoornet’s aging infrastructure and rolling stock to achieve reliability and safety in support of the company’s growth strategy. Mosweu was a maintenance engineer in the brewing industry before joining Rotek Engineering, a division of Eskom as business manager responsible for heavy maintenance projects. He joined Metrorail, a division of Transnet, in 1997 as senior engineer (electrical infrastructure) and was later promoted to chief engineer. He joined Spoornet in 2000 as an assistant general manager (wagon maintenance) and was later transferred to run Spoornet operations as executive manager (service delivery). His appointment is evidence of Spoornet’s commitment to changing the profile of its employee force.
