The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) has donated three fully furnished mobile container clinics valued at R6 million to the Walvis Bay Corridor Group (WBCG) to support Namibia’s fight against the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.Speaking at the handover, the head of component at GIZ transport, mobility and logistics project, Ursula Hein-Rooinasie, said supply chain disruptions in the Covid-19 outbreak had had a direct impact on the logistics industry, resulting in the closure of a number of logistics companies.The mobile clinics are stationed in Walvis Bay, Keetmanshoop and Outapi.Hygiene material such as isolation tents, masks, disinfectants and other protective gear was included to assist with the WBCG’s efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus at border crossings and along corridors. Staff salaries at the container clinics are also funded.Germany has been providing technical support since 2004 to help the Namibian government develop its transport sector.
