Route risk assessments play an important role in mitigating transport incidents but need to be maintained and communicated regularly to drivers. Michael Jordaan, senior manager: supply chain risk CoE, at Sasol said transport incidents within the company had been significantly reduced through the use of route risk assessments. During the 2010/2011 financial year Sasol had a total of 47 significant transport incidents while at least another 60 less significant incidents were reported. In the first four months of the current financial year only 10 incidents have been reported.
