Minimum wage increase for farm and forestry sector

The minimum wage of employees in the Farm and Forestry sector will increase by R1.14 per hour from March 2017 to February 2018 according to a statement from the Department of Labour.

Workers will now earn a minimum of R3001.13 monthly compared to last year’s R2778.83. The wage will increase by a further 8% by next year.

This follows the acceptance of the National Minimum Wage (NMW) Act which set the minimum wage at R20 an hour.

The NMW Act was signed last month by all National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac) social partners, except for the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu), and will be implemented on May 1 next year.
