May woos SA traders on historic visit

British Prime Minister Theresa May – along with a number of government ministers and a delegation of business leaders from the United Kingdom – was in South Africa this week in an effort to boost post-Brexit trade links. A government spokesperson said ahead of her visit that May’s central message would be focused on a renewed partnership between the UK and Africa, which would seek to maximise shared opportunities and tackle common challenges. “As we prepare to leave the European Union, now is the time for the UK to deepen and strengthen its global partnerships,” said May, who is the first British prime minister to visit sub-Saharan Africa since 2013.
