Mama Africa and the FTW connection

Miriam Makeba's biographer, Swaziland-based James Hall, has been working with Now Media for several years, and introduced Mama Africa to our publications. “Miriam would come to visit me and see FTW all around. She'd look at the copies and marvel, ‘I had no idea there was so much news about trucks and ships!’” said Hall, who penned “Makeba: My Story” in 1988 in Guinea where the African songbird was based at the time and where she told him her life's story. Makeba urged Hall to do his writing in Africa, which led him to Swaziland. “She was a friend and godmother to my daughter. My family is suffering a sad loss,” Hall said.
