TWENTY ONE South African border posts are to be upgraded along
the lines of the Lebombo post which leads into Mozambique, and which
is to be the scene of
an official upgrading
ceremony in the near future, says Brian van Niekerk, executive director of the National Inter-Departmental Structure for Border Control (NIDS).
Lebombo is also to be turned into a 24-hour operation at a date still to be fixed after negotiations have been completed with the Mozambique authorities.
"These negotiations are at a delicate stage but we are getting there. When that is completed we will have the official cutting of the ribbons to mark the start of a complete national upgrading of the major border posts along the same lines."
