This year, Angola and Mozambique are expected to record their lowest growth since the global financial crisis of 2009, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) World Economic Outlook.
It forecasts growth of 3.5% in Angola and 7% in Mozambique.
It also expects that Angola will again grow 3.5% next year. And it is expected to see growth of only 5.2% in 2020, showing, said the IMF, “that the decline in oil prices and the consequent impact on tax revenues will have lasting effects on the economic development of the country”.
While Mozambique slows to 7% this year, the IMF predicts a recovery to 8.2% in 2016. It also noted that the country will experience exponential growth of 17.6% in 2020, when natural gas exports begin.
