Local wine wins business class award

Ray Smuts LIEVLAND ESTATE is flying high - in more ways than one - after sharing top honours with South African Airways for the best red wine served in business class on 26 international carriers. It's another feather in the Cape's winemaking cap, to be sure, for as Lievland's winemaker Jean Pienaar put it in an interview with FTW: "We were competing against unbelievably good French wines." The 13-year-old Cellars in the Sky award by leading American publication Business Traveller reflects the palates of wine-loving business class air travellers around the world. Only around 2 000 cases were produced of which SAA snapped up some 500 cases, the remainder mostly for export.
