Loadshedding is having a massive impact on the freight sector, driving up costs that are already sky-high. Power consultant Doug Kuni, commented: “Traffic lights that don’t work mean roads are more congested, which in turn means trucks take longer to reach destinations, delivery schedules are out of sync and people are not completing tasks within the set period of time. “Loadshedding has a concertina effect that results in schedule chaos across the board,” he added. “At the same time we are seeing an increase in diesel use not only by Eskom to run their diesel turbines as the national power grid is under pressure but home and small business owners are also using diesel for generator sets. Diesel supply could therefore come under pressure.”
