L ogistics companies are already at work moving cargo for projects related to the Anadarko LNG processing plant, which is scheduled to be the first to be built in the northern Cabo Delgado province. “We have already started moving aggregate for construction of the runway for a new airport to serve the LNG projects,” said Lalgy Transportes founder and managing partner Junaid Lalgy. “A lot of earth is being moved to prepare the ground for the plant,” he added. One of the biggest challenges for logistics companies is a shortage of suitably trained people in the largely undeveloped north of Mozambique. “This is where Lalgy is differentiating itself. We have been on a recruitment drive for over 200 staff.” Applicants are given skills and medical assessments before they are admitted to the Lalgy training programme, which includes induction for the work sites. “It can take up to two months for a worker to get approval to go on site,” he told FTW. Lalgy is planning to open a driver and operator training school in Cabo Delgado.
