ALTHOUGH THE Department of Public Enterprises currently has a team of consultants - believed to be Canadian - looking at the technicalities of “concessioning” the Durban container terminal (DCT), the shipping fraternity still expects the terminal to go private at the announced date.
“While I also believe that they will be looking at concessioning in general,” said Dave Rennie, chairman of the Container Liner Operators Forum (Clof), “I think things will still go as planned.”
Rennie added that the lines were still convinced that end-April would mark the first SA port concessioning at the DCT.
However, questioned on whether this would be one, or more, concessionaires, Rennie told FTW that this - and a number of other factors in the final concessioning procedure - had still not been made clear.
“But, as far as I know, what was promised for next year will still take place as announced,” he said.
