KIEN HUNG's Far East/West Africa (FEWA) service is on track with the arrival in Durban this week of the MV Bernhard Schulte.
FEWA, hubbing through SA, links with the line's services to the four trade areas of Far East, SE Asia, West Africa and South America.
The initial response has been "very positive", according to Tracy van Heerden, national marketing manager for SA agents, United Ships Agency.
The early bookings confirm that the prime cargo flow is in-going volume to West Africa from both SA and the Far East. "There is also noticeable movement on the SA-Far East leg," said Van Heerden.
Paper, industrial alcohol and other chemicals are the base cargoes for the run, she added.
"The five vessels in the fleet allow an adequate space allocation for each of the trading regions FEWA will service," Van Heerden told FTW, "offering a fortnightly service initially."
But, she added, that is to be increased to a weekly frequency as soon as the service is bedded-in.
The addition of the new service makes Kien Hung a big performer on the Far East trade - now with six sailings a month in either direction.
