DANGEROUS GOODS Management South Africa is on an expansion trail – not only in South Africa but throughout the continent, says managing director Neville Symons. The company has added muscle to its specialist team with the appointment of Robbie Lombard to a marketing and consultancy role effective since January 1. A well-known industry figure, Lombard brings to the position 38 years of experience in the airfreight industry. He will be responsible for marketing, consultation and promotion of DGM’s business, with air cargo security his main focus at the start of 2008. In a separate development, Geoffrey Barlow has been appointed operations director of DGMSA and will head up the operations division which includes packing crating, container packing and the like. The company, which celebrates its 20th year in business in 2008, specialises in packing, storage and transport, consulting and professional training in the dangerous goods field. All of DGM’s activities comply with global safety standards. Kerry Symons, director of training at DGMSA and well known in the dangerous goods training field in Southern Africa, has been appointed director of training and marketing for DGM Support North America. She leaves for the US this year where she will establish DGM’s North America Training Institute. Global imperatives are creating increasing compliance demands on all operators and Symons believes that DGM has the know-how to meet the industry’s increasingly stringent requirements.
