Kenya’s hopes of producing oil by 2017 have been dashed due to the detailed design and construction timeline for the proposed crude oil pipeline connecting Uganda and the local oil fields to Lamu.
According to the Daily Nation newspaper, the Toyota Tsusho design – released earlier this week – shows that the flow of the first oil is expected in October 2022 at the earliest. This will follow the commissioning of the oil pipeline in the last quarter of 2020.
Daily news site AllAfrica.com reported that the Tullow Oil Company also announced last month that it would only be able to produce the first oil out of Kenya by 2020.
