Turkey has signed nine bilateral agreements on trade and security with Kenya as part of the country’s drive into African markets. The signing of the agreements came after president Uhuru Kenyatta held talks with Turkish President Abdulla Gul in Ankara, Turkey recently. Just days later a Turkish naval group paid an official visit to the port of Banjul in The Gambia. They will be the first Turkish naval vessels to sail round the Cape of Good Hope since 1866. The agreements signed between Turkey and Kenya include the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), technical and financial co-operation, education, culture, mass media and youth, security co-operation, energy and hydrocarbons. Turkey has been making inroads into the African market since declaring 1995 “The Year of Africa”.
